Iron Pellets
Iron pellets are small, spherical to oval-shaped agglomerates made from finely ground iron ore. These pellets are produced by processing iron ore fines into a compact form that can be easily transported and used in blast furnaces or direct reduction processes. They are a key raw material in steel manufacturing.
Key Features:
-
Size and Shape: Uniform in size (typically 6-16 mm) and round shape, ensuring better flow in furnaces.
-
High Iron Content: Contains 62-68% Fe, offering efficiency in steel production.
-
Low Impurities: Low levels of sulfur, phosphorus, and other unwanted elements, which improves steel quality.
-
Thermal Stability: Withstands high temperatures in furnaces without degrading.
-
High Porosity: Improves reducibility during metallurgical processes.
Production Process:
-
Beneficiation: Iron ore is ground and concentrated to remove impurities.
-
Pelletizing: Fine iron ore concentrate is mixed with binders and rolled into small balls.
-
Induration: Pellets are heat-treated in furnaces to harden them.
Applications:
-
Blast Furnaces: Used in iron-making for producing molten iron.
-
Direct Reduction: Feeds into DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) plants for steelmaking.
-
Steel Manufacturing: A critical input for producing high-quality steel products.
Iron pellets offer superior efficiency and consistency in steel production, making them a preferred choice in modern metallurgical processes
